MNP hits the Island today!

by isleofman.com 29th June 2009

Mobile Number Portability is being launched in the Isle of Man today.

The idea is to enable customers to retain their mobile phone number if they change provider.

Matt Kennaugh reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Both Sure and Manx Telecom are introducing MNP.

The move will allow people to keep their existing number if they choose to swap the mobile phone company they use.

It's been a massive investment, with Manx Telecom spending around ?1 million to make it happen.

The telecommuncations companies say they want to make it as simple as possible for customers and it's all about consumer choice.

It's expected MNP will create a great deal of competition between providers.
