Big fall in imports in recent years

by isleofman.com 25th June 2009

Imports of livestock into the Isle of Man have fallen drastically in the last four years, while exports have remained roughly the same.

That's emerged in a written answer in the House of Keys this week.

Imports went down from 643 in 2006, to 186 in 2007, 163 in 2008 and 32 so far this year.

It's being put down to the foot and mouth outbreak in 2007 and the subsequent appearance of blue tongue in Great Britain.

Livestock numbers sent off-island have stayed around the 4,000 mark over the past few years.
