His Excellency Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks has this week hosted a visit by the Queen’s Private Secretary.
The Rt Hon Christopher Geidt CVO OBE flew into Ronaldsway on Monday morning (23rd June) for a series of short meetings with senior politicians and Government officials.
He was welcomed by the Lieutenant Governor, the Queen’s personal representative in the Isle of Man, who provided an insight into the Island’s role in international affairs during a briefing at Government House.
Mr Geidt, who joined the Royal Household from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, was then escorted to Government Offices where he spoke to Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK and members of the External Relations Division.
He also visited Legislative Buildings, meeting President of Tynwald Noel Cringle OBE MLC and Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan SHK, before joining Sir Paul and Lady Haddacks and guests for lunch.
Government House works closely with Buckingham Palace on a wide range of issues, such as Royal visits and providing Royal Assent to the Isle of Man’s primary legislation.
Monday’s courtesy visit enabled Mr Geidt to become better acquainted with the Island, its officers and its growing importance in the global community.
Mr Geidt, who succeeded Sir Robin Janvrin as the Queen's Private Secretary in September 2007, said ‘I’m delighted to have had this opportunity to visit the Isle of Man and meet the local representatives of the Queen as well as members of Government.
‘I have enjoyed a very full and productive day and learnt a great deal about the Island during my brief time here.’
