Divers needed for proposed reef

by isleofman.com 24th June 2009

An appeal's going out to divers interested in monitoring a proposed artificial reef in Port Erin.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is pioneering a new project to lower a reef, made of old cables in the closed area off Port Erin, in the hope of attracting diverse marine life.

DAFF has promised to closely monitor the reef throughout its three year test.

The project is being overseen by Southampton University to ensure any potential risks to the marine environment are kept to a minimum.

Director of Fisheries at DAFF Andy Reid is hoping there'll be wide support for the scheme.
