Lord Street 'not an option' for travelling into town

Commuters using Lord Street as their route into Douglas are being urged to find an alterative way to work from this morning.

Major road works lasting until August, have just begun.

The Department of Transport wants to lengthen the right filter lane at Ridgeway Street, for traffic heading out of Douglas.

Lord Street will also be widened to stop long queues of traffic building-up at the junction.

During the works the road will be one-way only, out of town, with inward traffic being diverted.

The DoT's Jim Davidson admits it's a lot of disruption for motorists.

But he says keeping the road two-way with traffic lights, was not a practical option:
