An eight-week project to improve traffic flows on Lord Street is expected to cause rush-hour headaches next week.
The Department of Transport wants to extend the right-turn lane into Ridgeway Street - as you head out of town.
The existing filter lane is too short and quickly fills with cars and buses.
At peak times, that causes long queues of traffic, blocking the route out of town.
Lord Street will be one-way throughout the road works from today (Sunday), with a diversion for traffic into the capital.
Highway schemes manager for the DoT, Jim Davidson, says that's the most sensible option for such a busy stretch.
