Bogus switchover engineers

by isleofman.com 19th June 2009

As the Isle of Man converts to digital television, a warning is going out about bogus switchover engineers visiting homes.

Police in the west of the Island have received a number of enquiries from members of the public who have been unexpectedly visited by people claiming to be from a United Kingdom based 'Digital Switchover' company.

They say genuine engineers visiting people at home will do so by prior arrangement with the digital supplier, and will have full identification.

Members of the public are being urged to check this identification prior to allowing anybody into their homes.

If there's still any doubt, a call should be made to the company concerned, as many such firms have password systems in place.

Police say there is no cause for alarm, but householders should always be wary who they let into their homes.
