Local residents dominate TT arrest figures again

by isleofman.com 18th June 2009

A total of 207 people were arrested during TT fortnight this year, 82% of whom were from the Isle of Man.

Police say the figure is on a par with the previous two TT festivals.

Inspector Will Campbell says the number represents a small percentage of the local population and visiting fans and the vast majority of people were very well behaved.

There were 18 arrests for drink-drive offences and eleven people were charged. Two others were bailed and the remainder were below the legal limit.

Twenty of the 37 arrests for drugs offences were in connection with Operation Deflect, an all-Island Neighbourhood Policing Team initiative aimed at street level dealers.

Cell capacity at Police Headquarters was exceeded on several occasions and cells at Lower Douglas Police Station and the Courthouse had to be used.
