TT launches a world first for bike racing

by isleofman.com 12th June 2009

The world's first zero carbon emissions motorcycle race, the TTXGP, is due to take place today.

About 20 machines, designed and built by 17 teams, will compete against each other over a single lap of the Mountain Circuit.

There are two classes for the electrically powered bikes, the pro and the open, and to qualify for the latter, the machines must be in a salable condition after the race.

One of the main organisers of the TTXGP, Ahzar Hussain, has been pleased with the performance of the teams so far (play audio file):

The mountain section is due to close at 9.30am and the rest of the course half an hour later.

The TTXGP is scheduled to start at 10.45am and the Pokerstars Senior TT at 1pm.

The mountain section should be open by 6pm, and the rest of the course an hour earlier.
