Bushy's tent to disappear from TT landscape?

by isleofman.com 11th June 2009

The head of Bushy’s brewery says he may be forced to pull the beer tent from next year's TT festival because of entertainment changes on Douglas promenade.

Martin Brunnschweiler says he's lost a massive amount of business after the Department of Tourism and Leisure cancelled the big screen, on-street entertainment, the funfair and food stalls.

He estimates his trade is 40% down on last year, and says he will be lucky to break even by the end of race week.

Mr Brunnschweiler is seriously considering whether to run the TT landmark next year, and says he's not the only one who is having a difficult time.

He told Manx Radio:

"I've spoken to quite a few traders down Strand Street who are in a far worse situation than us.

"The people who come every year say they will definitely have lost money.

"Too much has changed too soon and I suppose at this stage we would really have to query the viability of doing the tent again, if this was going to be the format for the future."
