A former deputy chief constable of the Isle of Man should receive a public apology from the Department of Home Affairs, according to North Douglas MHK John Houghton.
Neil Kinrade was suspended from duty in October 2003 amid claims the Manx police had secretly bugged conversations between lawyers and their clients in an interview room.
Although no disciplinary action was taken, Mr Kinrade retired less than a year later and a petition of doleance which challenged his suspension was dismissed.
Tynwald's Public Accounts Committee, which has been assessing the case, will next week put forward a number of recommendations to the court, including a call for police disciplinary procedures to be reviewed so officers get a fair hearing.
