Hyperbaric Chamber - future secured

by isleofman.com 9th June 2009

Cheques to help cover the funding shortfall at the Island's hyperbaric chamber have been handed over by multi millionaire Trevor Hemmings this morning (Tuesday).

Mr Hemmings revealed he stepped in to help after receiving treatment at the chamber.

The facility on Peel Road in Douglas faced an uncertain future, after the DHSS said it could not afford to meet the full running costs.

The department funds the chamber to the tune of ?90,000 per year, but it needs ?30,000 more to continue - most of that met by donations.

Mr Hemmings persuaded the pools firm Sportech plc to donate ?5,000.

Another ?15,000 will come from his own TJH Foundation.

Mr Hemmings said he had a word with the Health Minister Eddie Teare, an old friend, to see what he could do.
