The crisis facing the hyperbaric chamber in Douglas looks to have been resolved, with the help of Island-based millionaire Trevor Hemmings.
Mr Hemmings has obtained a donation of ?5,000 from Sportech plc, which operates several football pools companies.
Its director Kathryn Revitt is also a director of the Hemmings Family Interests and she made the request to her colleagues to offer financial help to the chamber.
Marian Kenny reports (text, below, from attached audio file):
Another ?15,000 is being donated by the TJH Foundation, which was created by Mr Hemmings and which provides funds for health charities.
Its directors have agreed to provide the sum in four installments and the first will be handed over in a ceremony tomorrow morning.
The hyperbaric chamber has faced a shortfall in funding to the tune of ?30,000.
The Department of Health spends ?90,000 per year on the chamber which is to continue, but said it could not meet the demand for the additional cash.
Minister Eddie Teare and Trevor Hemmings will be at the chamber tomorrow for the presentation.
