The Castletown 'LinC' (Leadership in the Community) group have organised the first 'Southern Funday', which will take place at Castletown Football Club on 20th June 2009.
The event, which starts at 1pm and continues until late evening, will include a fun football tournament, live music, bingo, quizzes, stalls and home-made food.
The Castletown LinC group has created the Funday as a way for people to get involved with organising and taking part in a community event, and to raise money for charity. All proceeds from the day will go towards Manx charities, principally the Isle of Man Children's Centre.
A spokesperson for the event comments 'The Southern Funday is unique in having a football focus and we are hoping for lots of interest from 5-a-side teams, old and young.
'Those who aren't involved in the Parish Walk on the same day may be interested in taking part, but the tournament will provide entertainment for players and spectators alike.
'Details of how to register 5-a-side football teams at 1pm will be found on posters and websites. Play will start at 1.30pm and refreshments will be available all afternoon.
'Parish Walkers who would like a relaxing afternoon after finishing at Rushen may want to join us for live music or bingo in the afternoon. Bingo will start in the clubhouse around 3pm and aims to be a game for those too 'mature' for the football!'
Five live bands, including I Am President, have been booked to play during the later part of the afternoon. There will be plenty of good food available - from burgers to home-made cakes - but people are more than welcome to bring along their own picnics. There will also be a selection of craft and other stalls during the afternoon.
In the evening, there will be a fun but challenging quiz in the clubhouse bar, for those wanting to swap physical for mental activity! Players can simply turn up and take part.
There is no admission charge but modest entry fees for the football, bingo and quiz, for which prizes will be provided for winning players.
