Due to the re-scheduled racing programme tomorrow (Tuesday 9th June), severe traffic congestion is expected throughout lower Douglas from mid-afternoon onwards.
The Police would like to emphasise that all emergency calls will be dealt with as normal, with all other non-emergency calls receiving a graded response.
Whilst the Police, Department of Transport and other agencies have looked at all options to keep traffic moving, there remains a real risk of traffic coming to a standstill.
New measures have been implemented to improve traffic flow, but we would urge anyone travelling to Douglas on Tuesday to strongly consider using public transport, sharing cars with friends or colleagues, or exploring the option of working flexi-time to start and finish early or start and finish late.
Although the Douglas Beach Racing event has been cancelled, the Red Arrows will be performing from a revised time of 8.30pm onwards over Douglas Bay. This will potentially add to the volume of vehicles looking to use Douglas Promenade.
The chances of finding a parking space for this event is extremely limited and the Police would request that people attending consider other methods of travel or park well away from the Promenade.
Crossing points situated around the course will open from 4.45pm to 6.00pm. The Department of Transport have also put in place further points to assist in allowing vehicles to access areas around the course. The revised full list of points is:
- St Ninians Crossroads
- Bottom of Bray Hill
- Quarterbridge to Braddan Bridge (off at Braddan Road, The Jubilee Oak)
- Crosby Crossroads (up to Ballavitchel Road)
- Barregarrow Crossroads
