The new (for 2008/09) format of teams of three produced the desired effect of increasing the number of entrants into the league.
Each game was played to best of five, with the best three scores for each player counting towards league points. This scoring method meant that the team that won the most games didn’t necessarily get the most points.
This was most ably demonstrated in the match between Edgewater Associates B and Stone Art, where the match was drawn at 122 points each although Edgewater won two of the three games.
Edgewater’s points tally over the season was enough to give them a comfortable margin over last years winners, Mann Made, who just managed to edge out Stone Art for fourth place by 5 points, with Lloyd and Harry just a further two points behind.
Propping up the league were newcomers Gamers who, judging by their match reports, had an enjoyable, if less than successful, debut season.
At the other end of the table Motorvation were sandwiched between the two Edgewater teams just seven points above the B team despite winning three more matches. Edgewater A were league runners up behind run away winners Cains Advocates.
The Cains team lost only two matches during the season and finished nearly 100 points ahead of their nearest rivals, making them very worthy winners.
Congratulations to the winning squad, which consisted of Steve Baker, Rob Colquitt (team Captain and official photographer), Steve Gaylor and Dave Norman. The squad would like to thank their sponsors, Cains Advocates, for their support throughout the season.
The IoM-SRA Annual General Meeting will be held at Onchan Squash Club on Monday 15th June, commencing at 7:30pm. Among the items on the agenda is a proposal to change the format of the B/C leagues for next season.
The idea put forward is to mirror the format introduced into the A league last season by having teams of three rather than five. All Squash players are invited to attend.
