Open fires warning

by isleofman.com 6th June 2009

The Fire Service is warning people in the Isle of Man about the dangers of lighting open fires at this time of year.

It's after crews had to attend several incidents over the last week.

Officers say there are dangers during the summer months, especially during dry periods and often a controlled fire has burnt out of control, spreading to surrounding vegetation.

The advice is to inform the emergency services joint control room if you lighting a fire and it should be small and manageable.

You should always have water nearby to extinguish it if it gets out of control.
