The vicar at the centre of a police investigation into alleged financial irregularities in Maughold parish, has been suspended from duties by the Bishop.
It's emerged Canon David Green was arrested and questioned by detectives earlier this week, nine months after the allegations came to light.
Marian Kenny reports (text, below, from attached audio file):
In a statement Bishop Robert confirms the investigation has centred on financial issues relating to the Maughold Burial Authority, the body which looks after the parish graveyard.
Queries about Canon Green's conduct were raised last October. He subsequently suffered a heart attack and was seriously ill for several months.
He then took over as vicar for Bride and St Olave's in Ramsey, following the retirement of their minister.
Bishop Robert says he has formally suspended David Green from duties pending further enquiries. He has not been charged with any offence and the Bishop stresses suspension is not a punishment nor does it imply guilt.
He has suggested an appropriate response is to pray for all concerned.
