More people to be screened for swine flu

by isleofman.com 5th June 2009

Swine flu screening is to be stepped up in the Isle of Man, as confirmed cases of the virus continue to rise in the United Kingdom.

Anyone with flu-like symptoms who has been to an affected area, including the UK, in the last seven days will now be offered screening. Up to now the advice has been simply for people to contact their GP.

Antiviral drugs will be offered to patients where necessary.

Flu-like symptoms include a fever of over 38 degrees, a sore throat, coughing and aching limbs.

Anyone with any of these symptoms is being urged not to go to work, to contact medical services by phone and wash their hands regularly.
