DoT vehicle in fatal crash

A motorcyclist died on the main Andreas to St Jude's Road yesterday afternoon when his machine was involved in a collision with a Ford road sweeper, owned by the Department of Transport.

Sixty-six year old Frederick William Matterface was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, near Ballasteen Farm, Andreas.

Mr Matterface was visiting the Island from Kent.

The accident happened just before 4pm and resulted in a stretch of the road being closed for some time.

Police enquiries are continuing and the coroner of inquests has been informed.
