Lyn Ashworth has been appointed Headteacher of Ballasalla Primary School with effect from 1st September.
Mrs Ashworth will move from Scoill Ree Gorree, where she has been deputy headteacher since 2005. She replaces Jacqueline Barrow, who has been appointed to head Scoill Ree Gorree from the autumn term.
Mrs Ashworth qualified in 1993 from Chester College with a B.Ed specialising in geography. After graduation, she continued at the College, training in student mentoring and assessment of teaching practice. She began teaching at Highfield Community Primary School, Chester, where she stayed until moving to the Isle of Man in 2002.
Her first post on the Island was teaching Years 5 and 6 at Cronk-y-Berry Primary School. She moved to Albert Road Junior School in Ramsey four years ago.
Mrs Ashworth holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). She has been a member of the Island’s moderating team for English for the last three years and has enjoyed delivering training for assessment in reading and writing and visiting schools to moderate writing.
Mrs Ashworth will be sad to leave Ramsey’s new junior school, which opened last year. ‘I have been fortunate in being part of this great school for the last four years, during which time I have seen the new Scoill Ree Gorree evolve from the planning board into reality,’ she said. ‘I wish the whole school community continued success.’
However, she is thrilled to be heading to Ballasalla, which has 146 pupils on the register. ‘I am really excited at joining this thriving community school and look forward to being part of the dedicated team who support the children in their education for the future,’ she said. ‘I feel privileged to have been offered this post and welcome the challenges that lie ahead.’
