The Lord Street-Ridgeway Street junction is the bottleneck in the sights of the Department of Transport.
At peak times, long queues build-up behind traffic turning right, heading past the town hall and up to Prospect Hill.
As a result, the filter lane is to be lengthened and the whole road widened from Ridgeway Street back to Duke Street.
Part of the answer is to remove railings from corners at the junction and narrow the pavements.
