Charity looks to 'Parish' to raise funds

by isleofman.com 27th May 2009

A local charity is calling on Parish Walk participants to 'Make Every Mile Count' this year.

The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association is hoping to encourage as many people as possible to step out in support of the organisation's 50th anniversary.

There are more than 1,600 entrants for this year's event, and many aren't walking for a particular cause.

With one in three people affected by cancer on the Island at some stage in their lives, it's hoped many will use the 'Parish' as a chance to support the charity which has contributed more than ?10 million pounds to research since it began.

Committee member Jon Allen, who is taking part himself, says having to raise money can be daunting, but in this instance they're not looking for individuals to pledge hundreds of pounds (play audio file):

Anyone who wants to support the Anti-Cancer Association will be given a specially designed cap and sponsorship form.
