Mid-term changes to govt departments

by isleofman.com 26th May 2009

Wholesale changes to the political memberships of Government Departments have been revealed, along with statutory boards and authorities.

They include Peel MHK Tim Crookall taking over from David Cannan as chairman of the Water Authority and Rushen member Juan Watterson the new man at the helm of the Planning Committee.

South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey has been given the remit of social services with Dudley Butt MLC proposed as the member for integrated children services.

They are, of course, subject to Tynwald approval next month.

Some of the moves are understood to have raised a few eyebrows.

These are mid-term changes within Chief Minister Tony Brown’s government.

Joining Mr Malarkey in health is Bill Henderson who has the remit of social security.

MLC Juan Turner moves to Tourism from Trade and Industry, while arriving at the DTI - Clare Christian and David Quirk.

The new faces at the Department of Transport are Geoff Corkish and David Callister; David Cannan and Dudley Butt move to DAFF, while Quintin Gill and Tim Crookall join the Local Government revolution.

Onchan MHK David Quirk is proposed as vice chairman of the Office of Fair Trading, while the only department where there’s no change is where there’s been more activity than anywhere else over the past six months – Treasury.
