Expenses issue to be considered by MHKs and MLCs

by isleofman.com 26th May 2009

The question of whether members' mileage claims should be made public is up for discussion in both the House of Keys and Legislative Council today.

Politicians will consider a report calling for the routine publication of the information, which would appear on the Tynwald website.

It's understood that if the idea is supported it would be implemented very soon.

Exotic pets also feature on today's question paper in the House of Keys.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will ask the agriculture minister to justify allowing the sale of tarantula spiders and python snakes to the public. He also wants to know how the department ensures the safety and welfare of such animals.

A number of local residents recently started a group on Face Book called "Stop the Trade in Exotic Pets on the Isle of Man", which includes links to videos showing cruelty to animals involved in the trade.

There are ten questions for oral answer in total.

David Quirk and Graham Creegen both want to know about the Department of Transport's policy for removing abandoned vehicles from public highways and private land.

The transport minister will also be questioned on the IRIS scheme and air fares and services.

Keys questions will be broadcast live on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency from 10am.

The Legislative Council sits half an hour later.
