Cruise ship returns on Bank Holiday Monday

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2009

The MV Island Sky cruise ship is expected to berth in Douglas at 0700 hrs on Monday.

The 90m long, 4,280 ton ship offers ‘comfortable cruise experiences in elegant surroundings’ and will be carrying approximately sixty two passengers, predominantly American. Passengers will be met by representatives of the Department of Tourism and Leisure and taken on guided tours around the Island.  The MV Island Sky came to the Island twice during 2008 and the Department of Tourism are delighted that she has chosen to return both this year and again in 2010.

The ship was built in 1992 and had a major refit in 2003. It can take a maximum of 118 passengers in 60 cabins, of which 13 have balconies. The remaining 47 cabins all have sea views. Described in cruise literature as ‘a handsome yacht style ship featuring lots of polished wood’ the MV Island Sky has up to 72 crew, including a Doctor, to ensure everyone is well looked after.

Currently operating around Scotland and the Baltic the ships next cruise leaves Edinburgh on 31 May and visits the islands of Orkney, Fair, St Kilda, Skye, Berneray, Canna, Iona, Islay Gigha and Oban. We understand that this trip started last Thursday and cruises from Leith to Portsmouth, visiting Aberdeen and Dublin as well as the Isle of Man.
