Call for water quality warning signs

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2009

A local conservationist is calling for signs to be put up on the Island's beaches, showing the quality of the water.

Bill Dale of Beach Buddies feels there should be warnings if the quality is as bad as the latest Marine Conservation Society report says it is, in some places.

Only one location, Derbyhaven, passed while Gansey, Port Grenaugh and Central beach in Douglas all failed, as the levels of pollution exceeded the MCS's limit.

The report also criticised the cost and length of time it's taking to bring in the IRIS scheme in the north and west of the Island, although some of its claims and figures have been rebutted by the Department of Transport.
