DoT insists IRIS is making a difference

The Isle of Man's beaches are gradually getting cleaner, according to the Manx government's environmental pollution officer for water, Dr Phil Styles.

This year's Marine Conservation Society Good Beach Guide tested 18 beaches on the Island, but only Derbyhaven was recommended and three failed the minimum water quality standard.

The society says it's disappointed with the lack of progress being made on the IRIS scheme, particularly in the north and west of the Island where sewage is still being piped out to sea.

However, Dr Styles says you have to look at a bigger picture to get a more accurate view:
