Planning permission has been given for 18 new homes to be built on Belmont Hill in Douglas.
An initial application for 19 properties was turned down because of the impact it would have had on trees in the area.
However, the promise that five of the units would be made available as affordable housing convinced the Department of Local Government and the Environment that the plans could go ahead.
By reducing the number of houses by one, the developers can also ensure the area with the most trees, as well as bat roosts and bird nests, is untouched.
