Angry MHKs say minister should resign

by isleofman.com 20th May 2009

Two Douglas MHKs are calling for the resignation of the transport minister over his performance in a Tynwald debate on traffic problems in Governor's Hill.

In a statement, North Douglas members Bill Henderson and John Houghton are accusing David Anderson of 'brass neck arrogance' in his response to calls for traffic calming measures on the estate.

They say Mr Anderson is ignoring their concerns that residents of Governor's Hill face a dangerous situation on a daily basis.

A motion tabled by the MHKs to bring forward road safety measures was defeated in Tynwald after an acrimonious debate.

Mr Henderson describes the minister's response as misleading, misguided, uninformed and manipulative.

The MHKs say they have raised concerns with officials from the DoT on numerous occasions and forwarded a petition for a road crossing from local residents.

But, they claim say Mr Anderson deliberately ignored their points in yesterday's debate and go as far as accusing him of deliberately misleading members by reading from what they call the 'wrong script', referring to a different housing estate altogether.

Mr Houghton and Mr Henderson say the minister distorted the true picture in his response, overlooking clear and informed evidence presented to him.

As a consequence they are making a formal call for his resignation.
