The Department of Education is pleased to announce that Caroline Savin has been appointed to the Headship of Victoria Road Primary School from the 1st September, 2009.
Mrs Savin will move from Fairfield Junior School in Douglas, where she has been the Deputy Headteacher for the past three years.
Following a short time with the planning department of South Staffordshire Council and teacher training in Cheltenham, Mrs Savin taught in Wolverhampton and Dudley, before moving to the island in 2004.
Her professional interests include literacy, music and science - she is responsible for delivering the taught science modules on the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course at the Isle of Man College. She holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
Mrs Savin is married, and has a grown up step daughter and two grandchildren. Her personal interests include music (she belongs to the church choir of St Mary’s Church in Port St Mary), bird watching and history.
Mrs Savin said ‘Fairfield School is a fantastic place. I have enjoyed working there with great children, superb colleagues, and very supportive parents and governors.’
She said of her appointment to Victoria Road School, which has 211 children (including nursery) on the register ‘Victoria Road is a school with a real sense of community and long history and I look forward to taking on the new challenge and to meeting many new children, colleagues and parents this autumn.’
Mrs Savin takes up the post of Headteacher from Simon Jones, who will be leaving to take up his new position of Headteacher to Peel Clothworker’s School, also from the 1st September 2009.
