The chief minister says the pay of the chief executive of the Isle of Man's Financial Supervision Commission has no relevance to that of the United Kingdom's chancellor.
In Tynwald today, South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey asked Tony Brown if he thought John Aspden's salary of almost a quarter of a million pounds a year was appropriate, when Alistair Darling only received ?142,000 for overseeing the UK economy.
Mr Brown said it was for the FSC to independently determine the pay of its chief executive, and he didn't think such a high salary in a small community such as the Island sent out the wrong signals:
