Major expenditure planned on communication systems

The Department of Home Affairs plans to spend more than ?4 million updating the Island's emergency communication systems over the next five years.

Minister Adrian Earnshaw will ask Tynwald for the funding during the May sitting, which starts on Tuesday.

The money would be spent on the Emergency Services Joint Control Room and the TETRA radio network.

Mr Earnshaw says it would be money well spent to ensure both are kept as modern and efficient as possible, given the vital roles they play:
