MLC backs former minister over MER closure

by isleofman.com 16th May 2009

An MLC is calling on Tynwald to acknowledge the decision to close a section of the Manx Electric Railway last year was the correct one.

George Waft has a motion for next week's sitting asking the court to note the independent report into last year's MER closure and agree the then Tourism and Leisure Minister, Adrian Earnshaw, did the right thing, given the information available.

That is in contrast to another motion at the sitting from North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson, who wants the DTL to make a public statement on the report's findings and explain how it's going to make improvements.

Mr Waft says he doesn't have a problem with that, but feels the department should be left to get on with it:
