Don't be taken in by lottery scams - OFT

The Office of Fair Trading has issued a warning about lottery scams doing the rounds in the Isle of Man.

They come via either telephone or letter, claiming recipients have won money in the Spanish lottery or something in a prize draw, and ask for a cheque or bank details so winnings can be released.

The OFT's Pauline Wood says, as always, the advice is to ignore such offers.

She says nobody should ever give personal details to anyone they don't know, definitely don't send any cash or cheques in such circumstances, and report the correspondence to the OFT.

She says responding to even one call or letter can lead to big problems, as a local lady found out:
