It’s not usually par for the course to be given time off school so you can pitch up to your local golf course.
But the exception was made for pupils from Queen Elizabeth II School in Peel recently when they were invited to take part in a masterclass by the world golf trick shot champion, Geoff Swain.
Geoff was special guest at Manx Telecom’s Annual Golf Day, held at Peel Golf Club, and the company thought it would be a good idea to tee up an exhibition for appreciative youngsters from the nearby school.
Both staff and pupils stood transfixed as Geoff went through a repertoire of strokes, using a range of adapted and unconventional clubs - from irons with rubber shafts to drivers eight feet in length.
To highlight the difficulty of each shot, audience participation went hand in glove, with several brave pupils and staff hoping to replicate some of the shots - without quite the same level of accuracy and success!
QEII Teacher Ben Eyres said the school really appreciated the invitation they had been given by Manx Telecom to see a world
champion in action: 'It was a day that will live long in the memory'.
