Are you up for tackling arguably the toughest endurance event ever staged on the Isle of Man, one that’s certain to test your stamina, fitness and will power to the limit?
Called 'Sea to Summit', it involves conquering no less than 24 summits of over 1000ft across the Island – in just 24 hours; the equivalent to going up and down Ben Nevis three times in the same day!
The event is the brainchild of the charity-based Isle of Man Children’s Centre, who believe that such a daunting team fundraising opportunity will capture people's imagination.
Sea to Summit is scheduled for Saturday 18th July and by the time everyone has finished, they will have walked 46 miles and climbed a staggering 12,000 feet.
The IOMCC Adventure Events Coordinator Mark Eastham says it’s one of the most exhilarating team events that’s ever taken place on the Isle of Man.
'Certainly for anyone looking to challenge their stamina and fitness, I don’t think there’s ever been anything quite like this,' he comments.
'The course will take in stunning beaches, enchanting woodland and, of course 24 of the Island’s highest peaks. It will be wonderful to say that you’ve actually done it.'
The route starts in the south of the Island - from sea level up Cronk ny Arrey Laa, the first ascent – before taking in South Barrule and Slieau Whallian. It then heads up the centre of the Island, taking in all the major peaks, before heading west to Slieau Freoaghane and the surrounding hills, and then on to Snaefell.
The final peak facing competitors is North Barrule, before the descent into Ramsey and the welcome sight of the finishing line. There will be four checkpoints and refuelling stops around the course.
Safety is of paramount importance and the IOMCC have arranged for qualified mountain leaders to be present for every step of the way. 'The safety of every individual on this challenge is our primary concern,' says Mark
'We have taken great steps to ensure we provide the highest level of safety at all times. Everyone will be in the best and most capable hands'.
As well as providing qualified guides and instructors for each leg of the journey, the IOMCC are offering entrants training and nutritional advice as well as a comprehensive fundraising pack and a free T short for each team member. They are also laying on a post event reception and transportation back to the start.
Sea to Summit is open to individuals and companies. To take part, entrants must pay a ?25 registration which secures your place and also agree to raise the minimum amount of ?225.
The closing date for entries is 10th July. If you are interested in taking part in Sea to Summit, contact Mark Eastham on 676076 or email adventuremann@iomcc.org.im
