Man jailed for assault outside restaurant

by isleofman.com 14th May 2009

A 35 year-old man who beat a man outside a Douglas fast food restaurant, leaving him with severe facial injuries, has been jailed for two months.

Darran Walker, of Loch Promenade, appeared before High Bailiff Michael Moyle for sentence, having admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Walker punched the man repeatedly in the face and kicked him following an argument at KFC in Duke Street.

His advocate asked for a suspended sentence, saying Walker was severely provoked.

But Mr Moyle said there were no grounds for doing so as the victim suffered two broken teeth and other bad injuries in the attack.

However, he did reduce Walker's prison sentence because of the level of provocation.
