Councillor's update on regeneration project

by isleofman.com 12th May 2009

A ?1.2 million town centre regeneration scheme by Douglas Borough Council is scheduled to start in the autumn.

Two properties in Orry Street and two in Allan Street will be extensively refurbished, with three other homes demolished and replaced.

It's the latest stage in the scheduled maintenance programme for properties owned by the council in Peveril, Orry and Allan Streets.

Councillor David Ashford says the regeneration project will provide a welcome addition to the housing stock and is a demonstration of the council’s strategy of returning older properties to residential use throughout the town.

He says the scheme will also boost employment opportunities in the Island's construction industry.
