Ban plastic bags? - it's impractical says board

by isleofman.com 9th May 2009

Could Castletown ban plastic bags? That was one suggestion made during the last commissioners meeting.

The board considered a letter from the southern branch of the green group Transition Isle of Man which asked them to consider eliminating the bags from local shops.

Although the commissioners agreed, they said it would be impractical and difficult to force on local traders, given paper bags were expensive.

Castletown Commissioners chairman Alwyn Collister says it’s a move that has worked elsewhere.
