Bio Diversity treaty overlooked admits Minister

by isleofman.com 9th May 2009

The Agriculture Minister believes the International Convention on Bio Diversity has been overlooked by the Island.

Phil Gawne says from his perspective signing up is a 'no-brainer' and is something the Island must do.

The Isle of Man is the only country within Europe and the British Isles NOT to have signed the treaty and the Manx Wildlife Trust has written to all of its members to request them to ask their MHKs why the Island hasn't joined up.

However, Mr Gawne says while he's fully behind the move - which would cost around ?350,000 in the first year - there needs to be a political will.
