Biomass heating proposed for sheltered complex

by isleofman.com 9th May 2009

Plans have been submitted for a ?5 million sheltered housing scheme at Four Roads, between Port St Mary and Port Erin.

It's a joint project involving the Department of Local Government and the Environment and the Marashen Crescent Sheltered Housing Committee, and features 34 single and two-bedroom self-contained apartments.

The accommodation is being provided for local residents of retirement age who can live mainly independent lives, and includes communal facilities such as a meeting room and a guest bedroom.

There are also plans to heat the complex using a sustainable form of energy supply, with the Department of Agriculture producing wood-chip as a fuel.

It's hoped the complex will be completed by the end of 2011.
