With the recession encouraging many British travellers to holiday closer to home, Visit Isle of Man recently decided to give London City commuters a taste of what's on offer on the Isle of Man.
On Thursday 7th May, Broadgate Arena, in the heart of London’s business district, was transformed as a team of artists worked tirelessly for twelve hours to create a giant 45-foot map of the Island which showcased its most famous attractions.
100,000 London commuters pass through Broadgate Arena daily and had the opportunity to join in the fun by picking up a paintbrush and putting their own stamp on the map.
Londoners were given the chance to win a weekend break to the Island to celebrate increased flights from London’s airports.
The message behind the map was that whether people visit for the TT races, a leisurely round of golf on one of the Island’s golf courses, or simply to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery, the Isle of Man offers everything they need for the perfect escape from city life.
Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism & Leisure, commented ‘With the Isle of Man just an hour away from London City, Gatwick and Luton airports, there is something for everyone to enjoy.’
A time-lapse film of the 12-hour endeavour was created; view it here.
