'Pig races' to raise money for cancer treatment

by isleofman.com 8th May 2009

A series of 'pig races' will be held in Douglas Town Hall this evening, to raise money for the Mayor's Charity Appeal.

'Pigs in the Parlour' is open to everyone, and guests are invited to bet on the outcome of races between battery powered pigs.

All the money raised will go to 21 year-old Naseem Pishvaie, who needs treatment for a brain tumour.

For Dot Pitts it will be the last fundraising event in her term as mayor.

She says increasing the profile of illnesses such as cancer is as important as collecting money for charities (play audio file):

Tickets for 'Pigs in the Parlour' cost ?2.50, which includes a glass of wine. The event starts at 7.30pm.
