Jail for drunken assault against police officer

by isleofman.com 7th May 2009

A Ramsey teenager who assaulted a police officer has been jailed for four months by High Bailiff Michael Moyle.

Liam Anthony Faragher, aged 18, also admitted a charge of affray.

Faragher was involved in an incident in the town's Coronation Park last month.

He was arrested and lashed out at one of the officers who was putting him in a police van.

His advocate said Faragher did not intend to assault the officer, adding he had a serious drink problem and was drunk at the time of the incident.

Passing sentence, Mr Moyle noted Faragher had breached court orders in the past.

He said he had been put on probation by the Court of General Gaol last month but committed the latest offences a week later.

Faragher will appear before Deemster Doyle at General Gaol next week.
