by isleofman.com 7th May 2009

Firefighters from the Isle of Man will be at 10 Downing Street this afternoon, after securing a nomination for a prestigious United Kingdom national award.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is hosting a reception to honour the finalists in the 2009 Spirit of Fire Awards.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service is one of four contenders for the Brigade of the Year accolade.

The nomination recognises the organisation's contribution to the Firefighters' Charity.

Representing the Island will be chief fire officer Brian Draper, community fire safety officer Danny Dooley and retired station officer John Boyde.
