Band needs support to reach higher division

One of the Island's top brass bands has set its sights on achieving a major step-up in the music world.

Douglas Town Band has won a place in the National Championships in Harrogate in September, having come second in the north west round of the competition in Blackpool .

They hope to move up from the third to the second section, or division, in the brass band league table.

But the band has to raise ?10,000 to take all 32 members and their instruments to compete, and is currently without a corporate sponsor.

Band leader Ken Mitchell says they have done very well to get this far and he's hoping the Island will get behind them:
