Photo Exhibition Brings TT History to Life

by isleofman.com 5th May 2009

Fans of the TT are in for a treat when a fascinating exhibition opens prior to this year's Races.

Laxey Woollen Mills have teamed up with FoTTofinder Bikesport Archives to present the exhibition, which showcases over 200 Isle of Man motorsport photographs dating from 1907 to the present day.

The exhibition, sponsored by Brittany Ferries, has been organised by one-time Manx Grand Prix competitor Bill Snelling. Bill, who moved to the Island in 1975, says 'Visitors will see photographs from the TT, the 'Manx', and other two, three and four-wheeled motorsports on the Isle of Man, some of which have not been seen since the 1950s. There will also be an opportunity to buy a variety of prints.

'On the opening day of the exhibition, we are also holding an all-day 'autojumble'. People can set up a stall for free, and buy and sell any kind of bike parts - racing, touring, trials; you name it.

'We're raising money for the MGP Helicopter Fund. Last year, we raised ?1,400 and we're hoping to do better still this year, so we're urging all motorsport fans to 'leap to Laxey' and pay us a visit'.

The exhibition at Laxey Woollen Mills (Glen Road, Laxey) runs from Saturday 23rd May to 13th June and is open Monday - Saturday from 9am to 5pm. It will also be open on Mad Sunday. Admission is free but donations to the MGP Helicopter Fund will be appreciated. Refreshments will be available.
