People want to live as independently as possible - DHSS

A new strategy from the Department of Health and Social Services will see a shakeup in the way vulnerable adults are helped by government.

A policy document released last week says the department will work closely with other organisations to deliver promises of independent living.

There's also a suggestion some care homes could close, although Health Minister Eddie Teare has ruled out shutting large residential facilities.

DHSS assistant director for adult services Tony Lever says the aim is to help people live independently:
