Last month was one of the warmest Aprils on record.
Figures from the Met Office show there were around 10 per cent more hours of bright sunshine than normal.
Rainfall was close to the April average but wind speeds were lower and there were no air frosts, hail, thunder, snow or sleet.
The warmest spell was in the middle of the month, with more than 13 hours of sunshine on April 18.
Overall, last month was the fourth warmest on record - the warmest being 2007.
